Sri Lanka Premier League finally Cancelled

The Sri Lankan Premier League, which was expected to be held in this July, has been finally cancelled for this year after facing a series of problems such as the unpredicted withdrawal of Indian players owing to a ban enforced by the Indian cricket authorities. However, the Sri Lankan board has taken the verdict to feature the Sri Lankan Premier League to the next year. In place of the Sri Lankan Premier League, the owners of the league will held the regular inter-provincial Twenty20 tournament, including 5 domestic sides exclusive of foreign players.

Indian Players miss Sri Lankan Premier League

The BCCI, Board of Control for Cricket in India, has refused Indian cricketers to participate in the Sri Lanka Premier League. The reason of refusal is given that a Singapore-based private company, Somerset Entertainment Ventures is organizing the event in place of the Sri Lanka’s Cricket Board. Indian Cricket Board considers that the player contracts, issued by Somerset Entertainment Ventures, could lead to difficulties for the players in the near future.

Sri Lanka Premier League 2011 : Teams & Logos

Sri Lanka Premier League is Twenty 20 cricket competition of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Premier League 2011 contains seven teams and these teams can be identified with their logos. People will enjoy this tournament from 19 July to 4 August.

Previously, this tournament was called as Inter-Provincial Twenty20. Its new name credit goes to Somerert Entertainment Ventures as they have updated cricket leagues in the country. Seven teams of Sri Lanka Premier League 2011 comprise Basnahira, Ruhuna, Kandurata, Nagenahira, Wayamba, Uthuru, and Uva. If this season will be successful then extra teams will be included in near future. More than 30 international cricketers are invited to play in this tournament. After IPL (Indian Premier League), players will get another chance to play in jumbo Premier league which will be started by Sri Lanka cricket board as “Sri Lanka Premier League”. SLPL 2011 will be Sri Lanka’s first premier league conducted for 18 days from 19th July 2011 to 4th August 2011. Malinga decided to retire from Tests

Shocking news for the cricket fans who like the Sri Lanka's creative pace bowler Lasith Malinga as he announced recently that he has decided to retire from Tests because of a "long-standing degenerative" knee injury however continue to play ODIs and Twenty20 games. The 27-year-old Malinga, popular for his slinging action and toe-crushing Yorkers is presently playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 4 and took 11 wickets from only four matches hence the top wicket taker in this season's IPL.

Shoaib Akhtar will retire in ODI after WC

The fans of Shoaib Akhtar will be really disappointed after hearing the news that he retires from the international game after WC 2011.

Pakistan's pacer Shoaib Akhtar, 35, recently announced that he will retire in ODI after the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup so it is very surprising news for his fans as they will miss the fastest bowling. Apparently, Akhtar broke the news on Thursday morning to his teammates and manager of the decision at the Premadasa Stadium in an emotional farewell speech and was squeezed by fellow players and staff members. Before the world cup, it was considered that after the tournament he may retire, but he told the news himself hence its end of a stormy career which was flawed by numerous controversies, counting a dope scandal.
